Burly bowl, tung oil finish

This too is a free form carving. As I begin a piece, I often have only a slight idea what it might become. There may be 'punky' areas, worm holes, rot, swirly grain, or bits that just blow apart. Some amazing details can be revealed as I dig into a piece, and soon it begins to show its personality.

Laminated Cherry bowl


Unlike many bowls you see, this was not turned on a lathe but rather carved freehand with various rotary tools. I began by cutting the pieces into curved bits approx 3" wide, stacking, fitting, and gluing them together creating a very rough bowl shape. Honestly, it looked more like a stepped pyramid as it sat upside down on the workbench....TBC...
